CYNTHIA THORP, JD

Cynthia Thorp, J.D., is in private practice and has provided a broad range of legal services to elders,  families and children in Santa Clara County for 35 years.  In her private practice, she strives to work closely with her clients to achieve the best possible outcome as they face challenging legal, medical,  mental capacity, long term care, and life issues.  Ms. Thorp is available for consultation and representation on elder law, estate planning, long term care planning, conservatorships, and elder abuse prevention.



Prior to her current elder law and estate planning practice, her experience includes providing quality legal services to elders as supervising/staff attorney at Senior Adults Legal Assistance (SALA) and court-appointed work in family court.  Ms. Thorp taught law students at Santa Clara University School of Law’s community-based civil law clinic; worked at the Santa Clara County Superior Court Self-Help Center and Restraining Order Help Center; and as a Mental Health Hearing Officer.



She is an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR).  She is co-chairperson of the Elder Abuse Task Force of Santa Clara County and has been dedicated to elder abuse prevention, advocacy and education for over 30 years.  Ms. Thorp graduated from UCLA School of Law and grew up in Santa Clara, attending college at San Jose State University.
