PETER WHELLEY, MS, NCSP

Peter Whelley, MS, NCSP, is a nationally certified school psychologist who has worked in the public schools, colleges and Universities in Ohio, West Virginia and New Hampshire for over 35 years. He holds a State certification from New Hampshire and is a licensed Educational Psychologist in MA. Peter is a clinical consultant with SERESC of Bedford Hew Hampshire and an adjunct faculty member at Plymouth State University.

 

He is considered an expert on executive functioning and has worked closely with leading expert and best-selling author of the Smart but Scattered series, Peg Dawson. Peter’s interest in executive functioning came from years of seeing children struggle with not only attention and concentration, but planning, emotional control, ability to self-monitor and other areas of functioning that are at the heart of learning and life-management. His many years of working in the schools as well as his work with Dr. Dawson has taught him powerful evidence based skills and techniques that effectively help children with executive dysfunction survive and thrive. Peter has presented on this topic in numerous settings, both nationally and internationally.

 

During his years of practice Peter has held several leadership positions in professional associations including past president of the New Hampshire Association of School Psychologists as well as treasurer for the International Association of School Psychologists. Peter was awarded the New Hampshire School Psychologist of the Year for both 1993 and 2000, recognizing his work with school age children and developing and supporting programs for exceptional learners as well as the expansion of the role of school psychologists. In 2002 he was awarded the MCH LEND fellowship in conjunction with UNH and Dartmouth Medical School. In 2004 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the International Association of School Psychologists. In 2016 Peter was awarded the Life Time Achievement award.
